To mark Chinese New Year, Bun House have crafted their ‘Sweet Lucky Yu’ buns. Playfully sculpted into the shape of fish, each bun is filled with a stream of ube custard. These cute fish-shaped buns represent a year overflowing with luck, joy and sweetness as fish in Chinese culture is a homonym (the pronunciation of ‘fish’ (魚) is Yu which sounds similar to the word for ‘surplus’ or ‘leftover’ (餘)). To celebrate Lunar New Year, Rasa Sayang has reintroduced Yu Sheng to it’s menu, a tossed salad-based dish said to bring abundance, prosperity, and vigour. Families and loved ones traditionally gather together to toss its ingredients in the air whilst shouting auspicious wishes in a celebration called Lo Hei (translating to ‘toss high’).
