Plum Valley (Gerrard Street) | Cantonese Fusion
Away from the hustle and bustle of Gerrard Street, Plum Valley is a welcomed and tranquil foodie seclusion. It’s fitting because its name comes from a Chinese fable that tells the story of a utopian village living in harmony with nature, unaware of the chaos of the outside world.
Step over the threshold and you’ll see that the theme lives and breathes in Plum Valley’s décor, mixing elements of Chinese traditional gardens presented with a post-modern aesthetic.
When it comes to their menu, it’s rooted in a similar philosophy. And if you don’t believe that traditional gourmet Cantonese food can be married to a modern aesthetic, you need to try Plum Valley’s Almond King Prawns and Whisker Black Cod Rolls.
The prawns are covered in fried almonds that resemble scales, and provide a delightful crunch to a normally soft prawn ball. While the cod rolls are given an added bite by being wrapped in crispy strands of whisker-thin Kataifi pastry.
While marrying old and new may not be easy, at Plum Valley the mantra is that “anything is possible”. The menu took three months to develop, and is bursting with innovative dishes. Clearly, the hard work paid off.
Great food and tranquillity, with a big helping of serenity – it’s the nourishing retreat we’ve all been waiting for.
